We recently bought a tank from someone in town some months ago, and they said that they had been keeping turtles in it. We’re not sure if they were saltwater of freshwater; but we’ve used the tank for some saltwater fish and they seem to be doing fine (it’s been about a month and a half now).

There was some green stuff on the ornament which we disregarded as algae, so we cleaned/scrubbed it off with just hot water and a hard sponge; but before I put it in, I just wanted to make sure that it was safe to do so.

The ornaments kind of smell like beach/pool water, so that’s what makes me a bit wary. However, I have read that saltwater cannot be turned back into freshwater, but my fish seem to be doing fine.

Some advice would be appreciated.
