i just had this same problem the other day. make sure your tank is filtered mix up the cotton stuff so its in the water and wait an hour for your filter to take care of it. thats what i did with my tank and now my water is clearer than ever and nothing on my plants.

you may leave the light on your fishtank on to long sounds like this algae i have that looks kinda clear but clustered like a web only not really. people told me not to leave the light on top of my fishtank on to long so be sure to turn it off during the day or night depending on when you want it on to look at. perhaps you can use some of that algae stuff you can put in your water that doesn’t hurt plants just the algae
