MattBreedenNow

The repellent spray sounds like a good idea, but I would suggest the real tree as he probably just regarded it as a plain tree. The fake one probably has an unfamiliar smell to him so he is curious about it. Just put your delicat ornaments up higher, and fill the lower branches with the "dog friendly" ones. If you can, put the tree (if you stick with the fake one, or the real one is small) up on a table or a stand. If you get it high enough off the ground he won't be able to get to it.

Good Luck!

Put only the soft ornaments (not valuable stuff) at the bottom of the tree. Don't use hooks down there either. Keep the other stuff above his level. If that fails, get a baby or puppy pen and set it up around the tree (or blocking the tree in a corner).

I'm not having tree this year, I don't want the puppy to be an ornament in it (after electrocution of course), besides, I don't want to be part in the retailers Christmas game, which is more related with $$$ than with the spirit of Christmas.

2012 Obama

I have a little small animal (like rabbits) pen that we put around our tree to help keep out our cats and keep out the dog.

It's like that, but bigger. About 3 feet tall, and almost 10 feet long when it's stretched out. I have a golden retriever and it keeps him away from the tree.

Try keeping the ornaments up higher on the tree.
Good luck. I'll add in the link of the pen i'm talking about.

CNN

I hope you were only kidding about beating your dog.
You might try checking PetsMart for a deterant spray you could spray on/around the tree. They have this kind of stuff for cats so maybe there is something for dogs. If not, you may just have to raise your tree up where he can't reach it, put your ornaments up high. If all else fails, just put your ornaments on the top of the tree and hang up dog treats Barley's dog toys on the bottom (just kidding). Good luck!
