comicbookdrawer asked:

25 years ago, I wanted to work for ” HALLMARK CARDS”. But when a recruit from “HALLMARK” saw my portfolio. He could accept the fact that a black youth could draw this well.So he question my style of work,as if I was copying the style of a white artist…But I defend my work. I was not chosen..due to a simple misunderstanding. Now I work as a security guard on $6.50 an hour.

Forget about the past, and once again show Hallmark (or another greeting card company) your portfolio. It is never too late to reach your dreams and goals.

Sounds like you are a quitter. If your artistic talent is truly good enough to create commercial art then you should be able to use your skills at a different place besides hallmark. Don’t be a baby, and don’t be a bitter old man. Just accept the fact that you didn’t shop your resume and portfolio enough or you were sub-par when it came to drawins and the hallmark rep didnt have the heart to tell you that you were a crappy artist.

basically all i got from your question is “boohoohoo look at what the man did to me. I’m black, white people use me for a doormat cause i lay down for them.”

Don’t lay down in front of the door if you don’t wanna be used as a doormat.

    Draw independent art
    draw a webcomic
    quit crying.

Sometimes we are put to the test, in life. What really matters what we do with our opportunity. Perhaps your work at that time did look to good to be your work, instead of you running for cover, you should have sent them running for cover, it’s not to late you still have life in you, to go after what ever you want. If not there some where’s else, but where ever always know that there’s HATERS everywhere. Someone there, to try to steal your happiness. Don’t allow it. You should be the captain of your vessel not allowing someone else to steer for you

Yes and no. “What could’ve been” always seems limitless, but that’s in your head to some extent. But it sounds like you gave up on yourself too easily. No offense but there’s a lot of options that lie between the dream job and minimum wage that you didn’t explore. In a way you sealed your own fate. It’s not too late.

I think about these things all the time.
    Simple answer…yes.
MY dad went in the hospital about 4 years ago…having horrible chest pains…the doctor told him it was heart-burn, misunderstanding how bad the pain was, and sent my dad on his way home.
About a week later he was on a hospital bed needing a triple-bypass surgery with a 20% chance of living. Now let me give you an ideo on how that affected the whole family, and maybe even further. Me and my dad moved out of the condo in which we were living pretty well in, he had to move in with my grandmother because he couldn’t afford anything after the surgery, now we live in a small flat/duplex thing and my dad, my grandmother, and myself live on government checks for disability and other things of the sort, my aunt gives us money when we absolutly need it, and my dad feels horrible when he does need it.

I have another realy good example but i think thats pretty good :-]
